Bloemendaal wins Klassieker, Oranje-Rood frontrunner
On the ninth round of the Tulp Hoofdklasse Men, Oranje-Rood has taken over the lead from Amsterdam. The Eindhoven team won 5-1 at Schaerweijde on Thursday night, taking advantage of the national champion's loss in the Klassieker. At 't Kopje, Amsterdam went down 5-3 against Bloemendaal. Klein Zwitserland suffered their first defeat of the season after losing 2-1 at Amsterdamse Bos against Pinoké. The still scoreless straggler Hurley went down 3-1 at home against Den Bosch.
Bloemendaal - Amsterdam 5-3
In the 96th edition of the Klassieker, Bloemendaal shook off the chagrin of last weekend's defeat against Laren. Coach Michel van den Heuvel's team recorded a 5-3 victory over Amsterdam. The Mussen are now sixteen matches in a row unbeaten against the Amsterdammers and won against the national champions for the thirteenth time in a row.
A spectacular first quarter set the tone with three goals in just two minutes. Teun Beins opened the scoring from a penalty corner, before Boris Burkhardt quickly equalised, also from a penalty corner. However, Beins hit right back with his second goal from the head of the circle. Jasper Brinkman (penalty corner) and Zach Wallace built the lead to 4-1 at halftime. Amsterdam had another chance before the break via a penalty stroke, but Burkhardt aimed too high. The ball disappeared over Maurits Visser's goal.
Four minutes before time, Amsterdam brought goalkeeper Oliver Payne to the side for an extra player. Burkhardt still scored his second goal from a penalty corner, but Marco Miltkau took advantage of the empty goal and put the 5-2 on the board. Mustapha Cassiem set the final score at 5-3. Bloemendaal climbed to fifth place with the win, while Amsterdam lost the lead and dropped to fourth.
Schaerweijde - Oranje-Rood 1-5
Oranje-Rood took the lead in its 200th match in the Tulp Hoofdklasse Men. Visiting Schaerweijde, the Eindhoven team won with convincing figures: 1-5.
Arthur de Sloover opened the score from a not quite by the book penalty corner. Before half-time, Henrik Mertgens increased the lead to 0-2. After the break, Teun van Aalderen did something back for Schaerweijde. In doing so, he made history for the home team. After all, it was Schaerweijde's 500th Tulp Hoofdklasse goal.
However, the home team's joy was short-lived. Oranje-Rood stepped up a gear with another goal by Mertgens and goals by Bob de Voogd and Struan Walker. With this win, Oranje-Rood remains unbeaten this season and has tightened a club record with 12 games without defeat. Schaerweijde remains scoreless at home with five defeats in as many home matches.
Pinoké - Klein Zwitserland 2-1
Pinoké ended Klein Zwitserland's unbeaten status in the league. With a 2-1 win at Amsterdam Forest, the Steekneuzen move up to second place in the league table.
Joep Troost opened the scoring from a penalty corner in the first quarter with already his 11th goal of the season. Klein Zwitserland is his favourite opponent in the Tulp Hoofdklasse. The striker has now scored seven times against the Hagenezen.
Klein Zwitserland, playing without penalty corner specialist Aki Käppeler and Nicolas Keenan, did equalise through a penalty stroke by Jochem Bakker. But the same Bakker became the villain moments later when he made a mistake that Boris Aardenburg punished with the winning goal: 2-1. Pinoké thus remains unbeaten in home matches and wins for the eighth time in a row against Klein Zwitserland, who drop three places to eighth place due to the defeat.
Kampong - HDM 6-1
It was Duco Telgenkamp's night. The international scored a hat-trick for Kampong, his first ever in the Tulp Hoofdklasse, in the 6-1 win at home against HDM.
It was already in the first minute when Telgenkamp opened the scoring. Finn van Bijnen doubled the lead in the first quarter. Chris Taberima did something back for HDM from a penalty corner, but after that Kampong took firm control again with goals from Telgenkamp again and Hidde Plantenga before half-time.
In the third quarter, Kampong ran further ahead through a penalty corner by Rik Sprengers, after which Telgenkamp completed his hat-trick. The striker has been in blood form this month with ten goals and four assists in his last six games (league and EHL). Kampong thus booked its third win in a row, despite the absence of penalty corner specialist Jip Janssen.
Hurley - Den Bosch 1-3
Den Bosch continues to beat Hurley in the Tulp Hoofdklasse Men. With a 1-3 victory at the Amsterdamse Bos, the team from Noord-Brabant recorded their tenth consecutive win over the Bosuilen, who are still bottom of the table after nine games, scoreless.
Thierry Brinkman opened the scoring for the visitors in the second quarter. After half-time, Timo Boers doubled the lead from the penalty spot, finding the net for the fourth game in a row. Hurley came back against the odds through Hjalmar Voskuil, who poked in 1-2 after an individual action.
In the closing stages, Den Bosch had to continue with ten men after a yellow card for Marc Vizcaino. Despite the numerical minority, Brinkman decided the game with his second goal: 1-3.
Den Bosch thus remains unbeaten for the fifth match in a row and climbs to sixth place. For Hurley, the agony continues. The team has now been waiting nineteen matches for a win.
Rotterdam - Laren 6-2
Rotterdam did good business in the Tulp Hoofdklasse Men by dealing with Laren by large numbers. The 6-2 victory sees the Rotterdammers climb to third place in the table.
Nick van Trigt gave the home team an early lead, but Laren got back into the game through Pieter Paul Houting. Even before half-time, Matthijs van der Wielen made sure Rotterdam went to the dressing room with a lead: 2-1.
In the second half, Rotterdam extended their lead with goals from Marc Recasens, Timme van der Heijden and Tjep Hoedemakers, who scored his 50th goal in the Tulp Hoofdklasse. Thijs van Dam made it 6-1 before Luke Friederich made it 6-2.
For Rotterdam, this victory was a welcome boost after a poor run of just one point from two matches. It was also the eighth win in a row against Laren, which has been waiting for a victory in thirteen away games.
