Hattrick heroes: Sparenberg's rapacious three-pointer
In 52 seasons in the Tulp Hoofdklasse men's side, 966 hat-tricks have been produced. In this series, we highlight some of the best hat-trick heroes, such as Hendrik Sparenberg, who scored the fastest hat-trick ever.
As far as we can tell, Sparenberg is the maker of the fastest hat-trick of all time in the Hoofdklasse Men. The Kampong striker was on target on 14 October 1979 in the home match against Venlo, which the Utrechters won 6-1.
Sparenberg scored four goals that day. He scored the first three in the last five (!) minutes before half-time. He single-handedly lifted the score from 1-0 to 4-0. So it was also a pure hat-trick, without interference from a team-mate or opponent ánd all in one half.
A week earlier, Sparenberg had also been very productive, when he had a major share in Kampong's 9-1 home victory over Hattem with five goals. Remarkably, the forward from Wageningen had only scored a total of four goals for the Utrecht club in the previous two seasons.
Also striking: Sparenberg never managed another hat-trick in a Hoofdklasse game after his goal-scoring outburst in early October 1979.
