Jansen and Brinkman dominate the top scorer list in india
Hoofdklasse players Yibbi Jansen and Thierry Brinkman have already found their feet in the Hockey India League. Halfway through the mini league in the Asian country, both are leading the top scorers' list.
Yibbi Jansen has so far scored four goals in five games for her club Odisha Warriors, all of course from a penalty corner, her speciality. The 25-year-old SCHC midfielder also provided an assist to her teammate Michelle Fillet. The Amsterdam striker thus registered her first goal in the Hockey India League in the 19 January match against the Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers (4-1 win).
Apart from Jansen and Fillet, Amsterdam attacker Freeke Moes (Odisha Warriors) and Den Bosch midfielder Charlotte Englebert (JSW Soorma Hockey Club) were also prolific: they both scored twice.
Brinkman on a roll
Among the men, Den Bosch attacker Thierry Brinkman leads the top scorers' list. The captain of the Dutch national team, playing for Vedanta Kalinga Lancers, scored eight goals in eight matches. As we have come to expect from Brinkman, all his goals came from open play.
Earlier this month, Brinkman was the first player in this edition of the Hockey India League to record a hat-trick when he scored three times in the match against Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers (6-0).
Janssen also on target
Kampong defender Jip Janssen is also making a name for himself in India. The Dutch penalty corner specialist has so far scored five goals for his club Tamil Nadu Dragons. This makes him the most prolific player from the top of the D after Belgian Alexander Hendrickx (Vedanta Kalinga Lancers, six penalty corner goals) and Indian Jugray Singh (Shrachi Rahr Bengal Tigers, six).
Going further down the list of current hoofdklasse players, we also see the names of Oranje-Rood defender Arthur De Sloover (two goals), Amsterdam player Lee Morton (one) and Bloemendaal players Nathan Ephraums (two), Zach Wallace and Floris Wortelboer (both one).
For the women, the Hockey India League continues until 26 January. The men will play through February 1.
