Jip Janssen and Jelle Galema celebrate individual milestones
Jip Janssen and Jelle Galema can both reflect on a successful premier league weekend. The Kampong defender and the Oranje-Rood striker could each celebrate a fine anniversary.
Jip Janssen opened the score for Kampong after only three minutes in the away match against Nijmegen (3-5 win). That goal had a golden edge: it was his 150th goal in the Tulp Hoofdklasse.
Janssen, renowned for his penalty corner skills, needed ten seasons to reach 150 goals. He scored his first goal in the Hoofdklasse on 13 November 2016, in an away game against HGC (2-2). The 27-year-old defender has so far produced 136 goals from a penalty corner, exploited nine penalty strokes and scored five field goals.
Janssen, good for 24 goals this season, is only the fourth player in Kampong's history to reach the 150-goal mark. All-time club top scorer Paul Litjens (267 goals), Tom van 't Hek (206) and Constantijn Jonker preceded him.
One hundred goals for Galema
At Oranje-Rood, striker Jelle Galema was able to celebrate a similar anniversary. His converted penalty stroke in the entertaining top match against Den Bosch (4-4) marked his hundredth goal in the Dutch top league.
Unlike Janssen, Galema distributed his goals over several clubs. He scored 29 for Oranje Zwart, 24 on behalf of Den Bosch and now 47 at Oranje-Rood.
As a striker, Galema is mainly dependent on his field goals. He scored no less than 87 times from open play. The 33-year-old striker also converted six penalty strokes and was prolific in seven penalty corners.
After his goal against his former club Den Bosch, Galema's tally this season stands at 11 goals. That is only one goal less than his personal record from 2018-2019, when he hit 12 goals on behalf of Den Bosch.
