Amsterdam continues to stir briskly in the player market. The women's team has secured the services of Pinoké defender and Dutch national Imke Verstraeten for next season.

The 20-year-old defender is in her third season with Pinoké and has developed into a regular base player and first choice at the penalty corner for the Steekneuzen. In December, she crowned her good form with her debut in the Dutch national team. In the FIH Pro League block in Argentina, she made two appearances against Germany.

Verstraeten is already Amsterdam's third acquisition for next season. Earlier, Katerina Langedijk (Bloemendaal) and Daantje de Kruijff (Hurley) were already contracted. Moreover, the club has recruited Jesse Mahieu as its new coach. The current coach of Pinoké men's team will succeed coach Teun de Nooijer after the summer.

Strong mentality
'I am extremely happy with this step,' says Verstraeten. 'Amsterdam has a rich history and a great hockey culture. I look forward to developing further and contributing to the team.'

Ellen Hoog and Lauren Stam of the AH&BC Topsport committee are delighted with the defender's arrival: 'Imke is a great talent with a strong mentality and work ethic. Her defensive strength and penalty corner are a valuable addition for the team.'
