League leaders Oranje-Rood break club record (70 goals)
The men of Oranje-Rood have rewritten the club history books. With seventy goals in twenty regular league matches, the league leaders have set a new club record.
Oranje-Rood won 2-0 over Schaerweijde on Sunday on their own pitch through goals by Tijmen Reyenga (from a penalty corner) and Boaz Houben. The latter goal was the seventieth Eindhoven goal of this season, and was one for the record books.
The Eindhoven merged club's previous record production was from the 2017-2018 season, when there were 69 goals on the counter after 22 league games. Ten different players scored back then, with penalty corner king Mink van der Weerden the absolute best with 24 goals.
This season, production is more concentrated. Scottish striker Struan Walker - in his first year at the club - is on 26 goals, more than a third of the total. Behind him, Henrik Mertgens (12 goals) and Borja Lacalle (nine) provide most of the additional firepower.
The new club record is yet another proof of Oranje-Rood's exceptionally good season, which is the only team not to have lost a game this season. If coach Ageeth Boomgaardt's formation also wins its last two games in the regular league, another club record will also go off the books. Oranje-Rood will then end on seventeen wins, one more than the 2023-2024 record.
