Warmerdam says goodbye to top hockey after this season
Dennis Warmerdam is hanging up his stick after this season. The Bloemendaal striker, who made his debut for the Dutch national team in 2021, is quitting top hockey to focus fully on his social career.
The 30-year-old Warmerdam previously played for Pinoké and joined Bloemendaal in 2021. During his time at 't Kopje, he grew into an important link in the team. Warmerdam made 23 appearances for the Dutch national team and scored seven goals in those matches.
In 2018, Warmerdam's hockey career seemed headed for an early end when a tumour was discovered in his arm. Warmerdam temporarily stopped playing hockey, but recovered so well that he subsequently experienced another dream transfer and an international career.
Warmerdam combined his top-level sports career with his work as a performance coach and speaker. He will continue to expand that role after his hockey career. 'I still feel happy on the field, but it's time to make room for other things in life,' said the striker, who scored 77 goals in the Tulp Hoofdklasse.
