Amsterdam lead, win for SCHC and a draw for Nijmegen
Amsterdam is the new leader in the Tulp Hoofdklasse Men. Coach Rick Mathijssen's team won 6-3 over Hurley on Sunday, taking advantage of Saturday's tie between Den Bosch and Bloemendaal (2-2). SCHC recorded its first win of the season and straggler Nijmegen surprisingly took a point against Rotterdam (2-2). Kampong is the new number four on the league table after its 2-1 win over Pinoké.
AMSTERDAM - HURLEY 6-3
With a 6-3 win in the Forest derby over neighbours Hurley, Amsterdam is the new leader in the Tulp Hoofdklasse. After nine league games, the Amsterdammers have the same number of points as Den Bosch (23), but a better goal difference than the Brabanders (+22 versus +18). Top scorer Boris Burkhardt was responsible for half of Amsterdam's production. In doing so, the captain lifted his season total to 16 goals. One of Amsterdam's other goals was scored by Joost Tolboom. It was his first major league goal. Hurley suffered its seventh defeat in a row and is already eight league games without a win. Moreover, coach Enzo Torossi's team lost 22 of the last 23 away matches in the Tulp Hoofdklasse and dropped to eleventh place.
SCHC - HDM 3-1
SCHC recorded its first win of the season. In Bilthoven, HDM was beaten 3-1. It was only the second win in the last 24 league games at the highest level for SCHC. Coach Jeroen Groenheijde's team's previous win came on 8 May against Klein Zwitserland (3-2). Against HDM, Conor Empey (2x) and Casper Hafkamp, from a penalty corner, scored for SCHC. Chris Taberima put the 1-1 on the board for HDM in between from a corner. For Taberima, it was his ninth goal of the season. With the win, SCHC moved up from 11th to 10th spot and approaches HDM to one point.
NIJMEGEN - ROTTERDAM 2-2
The very first confrontation between Nijmegen and Rotterdam in the Tulp Hoofdklasse produced an immediate surprise. Last place Nijmegen took their second point of the season by holding vice-champions Rotterdam to 2-2 in front of their own crowd. The Rotterdammers took the lead after five minutes through Dylan Lucieer, but Nijmegen led 2-1 at half-time through goals by Jake Whetton and Niek Beijen from a penalty corner. For a moment, Nijmegen could dream of its first premier league victory since 2 May 1976 when Tilburg were beaten 1-0. Pepijn van der Heijden prevented the full spoils from staying behind in Nijmegen. He hit a penalty corner to make it 2-2. It was Rotterdam's fifth draw in eight league games. Coach Erik van Driel's team has already lost 13.
PINOKÉ - KAMPONG 1-2
The match between the last two national champions was won by the Utrecht defending champion. Given the statistics, that was no surprise. Kampong is a fearsome opponent for Pinoké in the regular league. With today's defeat, the Steekneuzen have been waiting 26 games for a win over the Utrechters. The last victory over Kampong dates back to 6 November 2011 when they won 2-0.
This time Finn van Bijen's blast in the seventeenth minute proved too powerful for Pinoké. With the win, Kampong, for whom Jip Janssen was also prolific, ended a run of three league games without a win. Moreover, coach Tim Oudenaller's team moved up to fourth place on the league table at the expense of Oranje-Rood. Pinoké dropped to seventh place due to its fourth defeat of the season.
