Damage for Kampong in race for play-offs, win HDM
In the race for a spot in the playoffs, Kampong's women have been dealt a blow. The Utrecht team, fifth in the rankings, lost 4-0 to leaders Den Bosch on Sunday. Competitors Pinoké (third) and Amsterdam (fourth) did win their matches.
Den Bosch - Kampong 4-1
Even beforehand, it was clear that Kampong was in for a tough afternoon at the Oosterplas. Coach Kai de Jager's team had not won against reigning national champions Den Bosch since 2001, and this time too, the home team proved a size too big. Already after thirty seconds, Charlotte Englebert gave Den Bosch the lead - for the third time in a row she was responsible for the first Bosch goal. The Belgian international also made it 3-0.
Thanks to the victory, Den Bosch is now unbeaten sixty league games in a row. For Kampong, it was only the second defeat in the last 11 matches, but a painful one, as it increases the gap to spot four to five points.
Amsterdam - Oranje-Rood 6-1
At the Wagener Stadium, Oranje-Rood could hope for a surprise for two quarters. After Fay van der Elst's opening goal, Lisa Scheerlinck equalised for the visitors from Eindhoven. After half-time, however, Amsterdam ran out convincingly. Michelle Fillet scored her first goal of the calendar year, while Agustina Gorzelany scored her seventeenth goal of the season with a penalty stroke.
With the big win, Amsterdam is now unbeaten for nine home matches in a row. For Orange-Rood, it was the fourth defeat in the last five away games.
Tilburg - Pinoké 2-3
Just like the previous five mutual encounters, Pinoké stepped off the pitch with three points. It ensured that coach Daan Sabel's team moved another step closer to participating in the playoffs.
Imke Verstraeten opened the scoring from a penalty corner, bringing her season total to 12 goals - a new club record, breaking the old record of Nicci de Haas (11 goals in 2005-2006). Pinoké is now five games unbeaten. Tilburg suffered its fourth defeat in a row.
Huizen - HDM 1-2
In the battle against relegation, HDM recorded a much-needed victory. The team from The Hague beat straggler Huizen 2-1, thanks to a penalty stroke scored by Belén van den Broek just before time. After half-time, Huizen took the lead through Taheera Augousti. Daphne Koolhaas brought HDM alongside before the end of the third quarter. Shortly after, Huizen had a great chance to take the lead again, but goalkeeper Julia Remmerswaal turned away Sam Luttmer's penalty stroke.
In the closing stages, HDM was then awarded a penalty stroke, which Van den Broek took and made it 2-1. With the victory, coach Diederik van Weel's team broke a string of nine defeats in a row. Moreover, HDM moved up from eleventh to the safe ninth spot in the league table. Things look bleak for Huizen: the team remains last and is now six points behind new number eleven Rotterdam. Direct relegation thus seems barely avoidable.
