Bottom club Hurley must win to avoid historic low
Hurley's men are the only team in the Tulp Hoofdklasse Men without a win this season. After 16 match rounds, the counter stands at one point (D1 L15) and the pressure is growing to finally get rid of that hateful zero.
Hurley have now been waiting for a win for 26 league games. The Forest Owls last triumphed on 23 November 2024, when they were too strong 2-3 against SCHC. Since then, three draws and as many as 23 defeats followed. In recent weeks, the decline continued: Hurley lost its last five matches and conceded 22 goals in them. The last point dates back to 8 November last year (3-3 against Laren).
Hurley is also struggling offensively. After 16 matches, the team stands at 12 goals, good for an average of 0.75 per match - the lowest in the club's premier league history. By comparison, last season Hurley finished on 23 goals in 22 games, already a negative club record then.
At the back, the picture is not much rosier. With 69 goals against, Hurley - together with Laren - conceded the most goals of any team in the league.
Negative premier league record looms
The figures also place Hurley in an undesirable historical row. The club had previously twice gone a full season without a win (2003-2004 and 2021-2022) and now that scenario threatens again. With six games to play, the team needs to win at least once to avoid a third season without a win.
Failing that, Hurley will become the first club in Hoofdklasse history to finish more than two seasons without a win - a record it currently shares with Almere.
The task for the final phase of the season is therefore clear: not only taking points, but above all getting that one win. Because the longer the zero remains, the heavier it is going to weigh.
