Ladies Oranje-Rood do good business, Troost leads Pinoké to victory
On the twentieth round of the Tulp Hoofdklasse, the Oranje-Rood ladies did good business in the fight against relegation. Coach Mark Dekker's team won 2-1 at home against Rotterdam on Saturday, lifting them to the safe ninth spot on the league table for at least a day. The Pinoké men escaped with a scare against Klein Zwitserland. Thanks in part to three goals by Joep Troost, the Steekneuzen remained unscathed in their race for a ticket to the play-offs. They finished 2-4 in The Hague.
ORANJE-ROOD - Rotterdam 2-1
The battle between two teams that have struggled to win in recent weeks fell in favour of the home team. All the goals fell in the third quarter.
Oranje-Rood took the lead two minutes after half-time through a penalty corner by Juul van der Velden. That lead was short-lived, as three minutes later Julie van Dam equalised from a penalty stroke. In the end, it was Vivienne Peters who gave Oranje-Rood the three much-needed points from a penalty corner in the fight against relegation.
It was only the second win in the last eight games for Oranje-Rood and the first home victory since the 2-1 against HDM on 28 February. Rotterdam seems to be yearning for the end of the league. Coach Jorge Nolte's team suffered its third defeat in a row and has been waiting for a win for four league games.
Klein Zwitserland - Pinoké 2-4
With three goals in the last quarter, Pinoké pulled off the victory after all. Kasper Vrolijk's team was trailing 2-1 at the end of the third quarter, after the Steekneuzen had taken the lead after only two minutes, but then saw it disappear.
With three goals, Joep Troost had an important part in Pinoké's victory. The striker brought his season total to 22 goals, breaking the twenty-goal mark in one season for the first time in his career.
With the third win in a row, the Steekneuzen are still in control of the play-offs: 41 points from 20 games. Klein Zwitserland suffered their third defeat in the last five matches.
