Tilburg ladies stunt against Amsterdam, HDM men win again
On the fifth round of the Tulp Hoofdklasse, Tilburg's ladies caused a big surprise. Coach Matias Vila's team took their first points of the season by winning 3-2 against Amsterdam at Wagener Stadium on Saturday. In the men's side, HDM recorded its second win in a row. In Zeist, Schaerweijde was beaten 2-1.
Ladies: Amsterdam - Tilburg 2-3
The previous edition of this matches already yielded a surprising 3-3, but this time Tilburg even walked away with the victory. Five minutes before time, Carmen Victoria scored the winning goal for the Brabanders, who turned a 2-1 deficit after half-time. Amsterdam, who had to make do without Sabine Plönissen, Stella van Gils, Felice Albers and Noa Muller, faced a deficit after only five minutes through a goal by Precious Oud. In the second quarter, Marijn Veen levelled the score again and debutant Ellemijn Harm put Amsterdam ahead. After half-time, Tilburg struck. First Iris Dominicus equalised, then Victoria decided the game and finally helped Tilburg get rid of the hateful zero. This also ended a run of five consecutive defeats in the Tulp Hoofdklasse. For Amsterdam, it marked the second home defeat in a row, something the club had not experienced for 11 years. In October 2014, Laren (1-4) and Den Bosch (1-4) were the last teams to pull that trick. Striking detail: it was the fourth time in a row that Amsterdam suffered three goals against in a home match (0-3 against Pinoké, 4-3 against Hurley, 2-3 against Kampong and now 2-3 against Tilburg).
Men: Schaerweijde - HDM 1-2
The fifth round of play in the Tulp Hoofdklasse Men also did not yield Schaerweijde any points. At home, the team lost 2-1 to HDM. After a scoreless first quarter, the home team did take the lead through Teun van Alderen. Shortly before half-time, Chris Taberima equalised from a penalty corner, his third goal of the season. In the closing stages, Merijn Maas decided the game in The Hague's favour. For HDM, it was the second victory in a row, after a league start with three defeats. For Schaerweijde, the negative run continues. The club has never won against HDM in the Tulp Hoofdklasse and lost its last nine matches at the highest level. Moreover, the team in Zeist has been waiting for a win for nine home matches.
