- Men's
Nijmegen relegated, play-offs for Hurley and SCHC
On the 22nd and final round of the Tulp Hoofdklasse Men, the curtain has fallen for Nijmegen. The team managed a 2-2 draw against direct competitors Hurley at the Amsterdamse Bos on Sunday, while only a win would have been enough to avoid direct relegation. That result means Hurley will finish above Nijmegen and the team can prepare for the play-offs, just like SCHC.
Hurley - Nijmegen 2-2
After one season at the highest level, Nijmegen descends to the Promotieklasse again. The Nijmegen players needed to win against Hurley to avoid direct relegation. For a long time, that seemed within reach. Shortly after half-time, Tijn Stuve gave his team a 2-0 lead with his second goal of the match. Hurley hit back in short order. First Joshua Keaveney scored the tying goal and three minutes later Hjalmar Voskuil pushed in the equaliser. Despite frantic efforts by Nijmegen, it remained 2-2. That meant direct relegation. Hurley awaits the play-offs in which they will have to hold on to play at the highest level next season too.
Rotterdam - Klein Zwitserland 5-0
Rotterdam bid an impressive farewell to club icon Jeroen Hertzberger. After twenty years in the Rotterdam shirt, the veteran was given a fitting farewell: a goal, a convincing victory and a lasting tribute. The stand in front of the clubhouse was officially named after him. Hertzberger crowned his farewell match with his 25th goal of the season, good for his 383rd goal in the Tulp Hoofdklasse. Rotterdam convincingly beat Klein Zwitserland 5-0. Besides Hertzberger, Guus Jansen (twice), Menno Boeren and Jochem Bakker were also prolific.
Den Bosch - Amsterdam 3-0
Thanks to a 3-0 win, Den Bosch climbed to second place in the league table at the expense of Amsterdam, which finished the season in third place. Timo Boers opened the scoring with a penalty stroke, bringing his season total to 28 goals. This was just one goal short of equalling the club record of Piet-Hein Geeris, who scored 29 times for Den Bosch in the 1997-1998 season. Boers did crown himself top scorer of the Tulp Hoofdklasse. With this victory, Den Bosch remained unbeaten at home this season, as the only team in the Tulp Hoofdklasse. The win is a mental boost for Den Bosch, as both teams meet again next week in the semi-finals of the play-offs.
Bloemendaal - Pinoké 3-2
Bloemendaal ended the regular season with a 3-2 win over Pinoké, after the home team had fought back from a 2-0 deficit. In the 70th meeting between the two clubs, Pinoké took the lead through Joep Troost before Miles Bukkens put the 0-2 on the scoreboard. With his goal, Bukkens improved the club record of Justin Reid-Ross, who scored 26 goals in 2011-2012. Just before half-time, Zach Wallace reduced Bloemendaal's arrears, which took the game to itself after the break. It was finally Dennis Warmerdam who scored the winning goal just before time. Bloemendaal can prepare for the play-offs where they will meet national champion Kampong next week.
Kampong - SCHC 3-1
Kampong had a fine start to the last league match at the home Klapperboom. After eight minutes, the national champion led 2-0 thanks to goals by Duco Telgenkamp and Rik Sprengers. Just after half-time, Terrance Pieters lifted the score to 3-0 before Alistair Empey scored for SCHC in the closing stages. For the Bilthoven formation, the defeat meant the team was condemned to play play-outs. Kampong ends the season with a run of eight games without defeat. Next week, the Utrechters will meet Bloemendaal in the play-offs for a spot in the NK finals.
HDM - Oranje-Rood 2-4
Despite the 4-2 defeat at home against Oranje-Rood, HDM will also play in the Tulp Hoofdklasse next season. By losing to competitors SCHC, the Hague formation managed to retain direct possession of the Tulp Hoofdklasse. Oranje-Rood ran out to a 3-0 lead before HDM did something back through Chris Taberima. The club's top scorer accounted for no less than 41 per cent of all his team's goals this season (17 out of 41 hits). Arthur de Sloover then made it 1-4 before Marc Boltó put the final score on the scoreboard. For the eighth time in a row, HDM failed to win against Oranje-Rood.
