Den Bosch prepares for historic Saturday
Den Bosch women can write history in the Tulp Hoofdklasse on Saturday. If the record champion wins or draws at visiting straggler Huizen, it will set a new premier league record: 51 games in a row without defeat in the regular league.
Den Bosch last defeat in the Hoofdklasse dates back from 18 September 2022: 2-0 on a visit to arch-rival Amsterdam. After that painful loss, the team suddenly appeared unbeatable: Den Bosch won 42 games and drew eight times.
With the 6-1 win over Pinoké last weekend, the Bosch squad equalled its own record from the 2015-2018 period, when under then coach Raoul Ehren the team won 45 times and only lost five points in a draw.
163 goals in fifty games
Zooming in on the current record run, coach Marieke Dijkstra's formation faced only 40 goals in the fifty matches and kept a clean sheet in 19 games.
Den Bosch produced 163 goals themselves, with Frédérique Matla (54), Joosje Burg (27) and Maartje Krekelaar (19) accounting for most of them. The biggest win on home field was the 8-0 against Tilburg on the last round of the previous season. Outside Den Bosch, the 1-9 against Bloemendaal on 15 October 2022 was the biggest hit.
Dijkstra: 'Nice when it works'
'In the beginning, we were not at all concerned with that run without defeat, but now it is pretty much alive in the group,' coach Dijkstra says. 'That's also because a possible equalling of the record last term coincided nicely with the three top games against Kampong, SCHC and Pinoké. Our sub-goal was to get nine points from those matches to complete the fifty matches. That worked out nicely. Saturday in Huizen we have the chance to improve our own record. It's not super important and we won't win a prize with it, but of course it's great fun if we succeed.'
