Den Bosch more productive than ever in away games

Although Den Bosch still has to play one more away game against Kampong in the regular league (on Sunday 3 May), the team has already improved a club record in terms of away goals. The previous club record in terms of away goals stood at 32, set in 2001/02. That record was amply improved during the past two away games at Bloemendaal (2-3) and Schaerweijde (1-8).

Den Bosch's away production is largely the work of three players. Penalty corner specialist Timo Boers scored 13 of the 42 away goals - almost one in three. Attackers Koen Bijen and Thierry Brinkman shot eight times each. Together, they accounted for 29 of the 42 away goals (69 per cent).

The last away game of the season awaits on Sunday 3 May, at Kampong in Utrecht. Then Den Bosch, the number five of the league table, can further tighten its club record. Equalling the premier league record is no longer in the cards for the Bosch outfit. That stands at 55 away goals, set by Bloemendaal in the 2006-2007 season.

If Den Bosch succeeds in scoring three goals at Kampong, it will join the fifteen most productive away teams ever in big league history.

What makes Den Bosch's season extra striking is that the team is significantly more productive on foreign soil than on their own pitch at the Oosterplas. The 42 away goals compare to 29 home goals - a difference of thirteen. In the entire history of the Hoofdklasse Men, there were only three times when this gap was even bigger: Rotterdam in 2020-2021 and Kampong and Klein Zwitserland in 2017-2018 and 1979-1980 respectively.
