Frédérique Matla reaches milestone with 350th goal
Den Bosch attacker Frédérique Matla reached a milestone in the cup match against HGC on Wednesday night. The 28-year-old striker scored the 350th goal in her hockey career in Wassenaar.
The statistically remarkable goal fell already in the second minute, when Matla had free passage towards HGC's circle after a beautiful deep pass from Danique van der Veerdonk. There she remained ice-cold face to face with goalkeeper Sofie ter Kuile and finished expertly.
Den Bosch eventually won the match in the quarterfinals of the cup competition 3-0 as Emma Reijnen and Charlotte Englebert also scored.
Matla distributed her 350 goals as follows: she made 247 in the service of Den Bosch and 103 on behalf of the Orange women. In current women's hockey, nobody - both nationally and internationally - can match her figures.
New anniversary in sight
Matla and Den Bosch are working towards the restart of the Tulp Hoofdklasse Women, which is on the menu for next weekend. The league leaders take on Hurley on Sunday afternoon in Amstelveen.
Chances are that Matla will then take another step towards a new milestone: she only needs three more goals for her 250th official goal as a Den Bosch player. So far, she has scored 182 in the Hoofdklasse, nineteen in the play-offs, 24 in the battle for the Gold Cup and 22 in a European context.
