Matla and Jansen in tight battle for top scorer's title
It looks like the battle for the top scorer's title will be a clash between Frédérique Matla and Yibbi Jansen. Both players lead the league table after 20 rounds with 19 goals each.
Den Bosch attacker Matla and SCHC midfielder Jansen have been continuously competing for the top scorer title since 2021-22. Matla can become top scorer of the Netherlands for the fifth time in her career, after previous individual successes in 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2024. Of all players in premier league history, only Maartje Paumen captured more top scorer titles; she took this award nine times.
Jansen crowned herself top scorer of the Hoofdklasse in season 2022-2023 and can reach the twenty-goal mark for the fourth consecutive year this season. In the past three seasons, the World Player of the Year reached 26, 23 and 21 goals in the regular league.
Behind Matla and Jansen, Agustina Gorzelany is in the waiting room. Amsterdam's penalty corner specialist stands at 17 goals, but failed to score last weekend. In the top match against Kampong, the Argentine defender saw her penalty stroke saved by goalkeeper Babette Backers.
