Frédérique Matla reached an impressive milestone on Sunday afternoon. The 29-year-old Den Bosch attacker scored the 400th official goal in her career against Rotterdam (1-0).
Matla provided the only goal of the match in the 37th minute of the home duel with the Rotterdammers. She struck the goal from a penalty corner, one of the versatile striker's trademarks. It was her 16th league goal of the season.
As a sixteen-year-old talent, Matla scored her first goal at the highest level on 10 March 2013: at home against Pinoké. More than twelve years later, that tally has risen to four hundred. On behalf of Den Bosch, she scored 284 times in official matches: 207 goals in the Tulp Hoofdklasse, 20 in the play-offs, 32 at European level and 25 in the battle for the Gold Cup. To this must be added 116 international goals in the shirt of Orange.
Striking statistic in the margin: the club against which Matla struck most often is Pinoké - the very opponent against whom it all started. The team from Amstelveen collected no less than 32 of its hits. For the Dutch, Germany is Matla's favourite target: twelve times she left the German goalkeeper defenceless.
Matla can come even closer to another milestone this season: she has at least six more games (four in the regular league and two in the play-offs) to bring her goal total on behalf of Den Bosch towards the three-hundred mark. So the counter now stands at 284.
