Men's chair dance: already seven times a new leader
The battle for the top spot in the Tulp Hoofdklasse Men is unprecedentedly exciting this season. After ten match rounds, five different clubs have already led the rankings, with Oranje-Rood the most frequent frontrunner.
In the first 10 match rounds of this season, the lead position changed hands no less than five times. Oranje-Rood, the current number one, topped the table three times this season, making it the most frequent leader so far. Amsterdam, Pinoké and Klein Zwitserland led the rankings twice each, while Rotterdam led the list once.
What is also striking is that the lead has changed hands seven (!) times so far. No team managed to hold the lead for more than two weeks. The strongly started KZ relinquished its first position after the first two match rounds, after which the Hoofdklasse had a new leader seven times in a row. Since last Thursday, Oranje-Rood is leading the standings, now two match rounds in a row.
By the way, we should make a small comment: Rotterdam, Bloemendaal, Kampong and Den Bosch in fact played one less match than the eight other teams so far. That has to do with the EHL obligations that Kampong and Bloemendaal had in Barcelona in early October. The matches Den Bosch-Bloemendaal and Kampong-Rotterdam will be made up on Thursday 13 November.
The situation at the bottom
In the tail of the league table, on the other hand, it is deafeningly quiet. During the first four match rounds, Schaerweijde was the straggler, but then Hurley took over that spot. In nine of the ten match rounds, HDM, Laren, Schaerweijde and Hurley were each among the four lowest-ranked clubs in the league table. The exception was the standings after the seventh match round, in which Den Bosch was suddenly ninth and HDM had temporarily moved up to spot seven.
