Pepijn Reyenga opts for social career

Pepijn Reyenga will quit Den Bosch after this season. The 24-year-old midfielder reached nine international appearances for the Oranje in 2023, but a real breakthrough failed to materialise. This was partly due to a long-term concussion, following a violent incident in which he received a blow to the back of his head and was sidelined for a year.

Reyenga is now fully fit again, but he is opting for a social career in construction.

'It came as a surprise to many people, but for me it feels less sudden because I have been thinking about this for some time,' says Pepijn Reyenga.

'The combination of top-class sport and a future in construction simply demands too much on a physical and mental level, especially to keep playing at my own level.' That's why he consciously chooses this new direction: 'I want to focus fully on that now, because I feel that's the right step in the long term.'
