Amsterdam H1
Rotterdam's men have captured the national title for the first time in 13 years. Outgoing coach Erik van Driel's team drew 2-2 at home against Amsterdam on Monday, which after the 3-2 win in the first final game was enough for the second national title in the club's history.
Amsterdam started sharply and took an early lead through Sam Steins Bisschop, who cleverly changed the direction of a cross from a long corner. Rotterdam recovered midway through the second quarter and came alongside through captain Thijs van Dam, from a penalty corner rebound: 1-1.
After half-time, Amsterdam took another step towards prolonging the title. Boris Burkhardt exploited a penalty corner and brought the Amsterdammers back into the lead, balancing the score over two games.
In a gruelling final phase, Amsterdam stepped up the pressure further, but goalkeeper Derk Meijer kept Rotterdam on their toes with several saves.
Where shoot-outs seemed to be in the air, Rotterdam struck in the penultimate minute. Joaquin Menini tipped in a free ball from Justen Blok to decide the final. For Rotterdam, it means the first national title since 2013, when the club captured its only previous title.
