Rotterdam keeps Kampong in sight in play-off battle
The men's teams of Kampong and Rotterdam do not give each other an inch in the battle for a ticket to the playoffs. Kampong won 4-2 over Hurley on Saturday in the sixteenth round of the Tulp Hoofdklasse. Rotterdam beat leaders Bloemendaal 4-3.
With the wins, both Kampong and Rotterdam have thirty points after sixteen matches. Kampong occupies that important fourth spot in the league table because it has recorded more wins in those sixteen games than Rotterdam (nine against eight).
Kampong - Hurley 4-2
Kampong did what it had to do in the battle for a play-off spot: win. On their own pitch, the Utrechters beat Hurley 4-2, with the final score already on the board at half-time. The home team got off to a flying start and took a comfortable 2-0 lead after only three minutes.
For Hurley, thoughts undoubtedly went back to last week, when Rotterdam led 8-0 at half-time. This time there was no punishment. Hjalmar Voskuil reduced the deficit, but two goals from Duco Telgenkamp secured victory for Kampong. Indra Aerts set the final score with his first goal of 2025. Kampong had to do without injured goalkeeper David Harte, but could count on the return of Jonas de Geus.
Rotterdam - Bloemendaal 4-3
In a spectacular match, Rotterdam drew the longest against leaders Bloemendaal. It was only the second win for the Rotterdammers in eleven matches with Bloemendaal. Pepijn van der Heijden put the home team ahead, but Casper van der Veen equalised. Jeroen Hertzberger brought Rotterdam back into the lead and Olivier Hortensius increased the margin to 3-1.
Things got exciting when Bloemendaal came back to 3-3 through penalty corners by Marc Miralles and Zach Wallace. Menno Boeren eventually became the matchwinner by scoring the winning goal for the Rotterdammers in the closing stages. It was Rotterdam's third league win in a row, while Bloemendaal suffered their third defeat in the last five matches. Bloemendaal still holds first place, but could lose the lead to Amsterdam on Sunday.
