Rotterdam new leader, 35 goals in five matches
The teams in the Tulp Hoofdklasse Men had their sights set on Sunday. As many as 35 goals were scored in five matches. Both Amsterdam-Laren and Rotterdam-Hurley ended in 9-0, a result that has only happened five times before in premier league history. Thanks to the big win, Rotterdam took over the lead from Pinoké, which reached 3-3 against Den Bosch. Hurley dropped to last place, while Bloemendaal won 5-4 in the top match against Kampong. The match between Klein Zwitserland and Oranje-Rood ended undecided.
Rotterdam - Hurley 9-0
Last season, Rotterdam won both matches between them by resounding figures (8-3 and 10-0). This time too, the abacus had to be grabbed. Pepijn van der Heijden set the tone with two goals in the first ten minutes and completed his hat-trick in the fourth quarter. His younger brother Timme van der Heijden also scored against Hurley, which lost all five league matches. The new straggler in the Tulp Hoofdklasse has been waiting for a win in the Tulp Hoofdklasse for 15 games. The new frontrunner, on the other hand, is on a good run. Coach Erik van Driel's team won its last four matches and is already unbeaten eight league matches in a row. Remarkable: in its last five home games, Rotterdam scored no less than 33 goals: 8-4 Nijmegen, 5-0 Klein Zwitserland, 4-2 Bloemendaal, 7-2 HDM and 9-0 Hurley.
Amsterdam - Laren 9-0
Hat-tricks by Dayaan Cassiem and Boris Burkhardt contributed to the resounding 9-0 win over promoted Laren. Burkhardt also reached a milestone. His second goal was his 100th goal in the Tulp Hoofdklasse (51 home, 50 away). He already stands at 11 goals this season, including four from a penalty corner. The reigning national champions remained unbeaten and climbed from sixth to third place, two points off leaders Rotterdam. Laren, which saw another penalty stroke stopped by goalkeeper Ollie Payne through Tomas Selles, lost 11 of its last 12 away games against Amsterdam. The last six league matches all resulted in defeats, although the team remains tenth on the league table.
Pinoké - Den Bosch 3-3
Pinoké, who started the day as frontrunners, seemed to be on their way to their fourth win of the season when leading 3-1. In the closing stages, however, the match tipped over and Den Bosch still managed to salvage a point. Earlier in the game, goalie Hidde Brink turned away a Timo Boers penalty stroke. Boers made up for his 'mistake' by pushing in the 3-3 from a penalty corner. It was his 49th penalty corner goal. Thanks to the draw, the Bosch formation remained unbeaten in its last six clashes with Pinoké. Den Bosch rose to eighth place and Pinoké lost the lead and even fell outside the top three.
Bloemendaal - Kampong 5-4
In recent history, Bloemendaal has proved to be a difficult hurdle for Kampong to overcome and this time it proved that too. Bloemendaal came out on top at their own Kopje in a match rich in goals. It ended 5-4. Floris Wortelboer opened the score after six minutes, but after that Bloemendaal had to make up ground several times (1-2, 2-3, 3-4). In the closing stages, newcomer Elian Mazkour gave The Mussen the victory. Bloemendaal is now thirteen games in a row unbeaten against Kampong and rises to second place. For Kampong, now ninth, this is the worst start to the season since 2009-10. There was personal success for Duco Telgenkamp, who scored twice. His first goal was his 50th official goal in Kampong jersey.
Klein Zwitserland - Oranje-Rood 1-1
The matches between two unbeaten teams remained undecided. Tijmen Reyenga had given the visitors the lead from a penalty corner just before half-time. Adrian Lehmann-Richter prevented Klein Zwitserland's first defeat of the season in the closing stages. A win over the Hague team would have seen Oranje-Rood realise its best league start after the first five games. The draw resulted in Oranje-Rood dropping to fifth place, while Klein Zwitserland dropped one spot to number six.
