Tilburg takes point against SCHC, losses Oranje-Rood and Hurley
With the tickets distributed for the play-offs for the national title, eyes are on the relegation battle in the Tulp Hoofdklasse Women. Striker Tilburg dragged out a 2-2 draw against leaders SCHC in Bilthoven on Sunday. The draw meant that Tilburg caught up with competitors Oranje-Rood and Hurley. Both teams were without points on the nineteenth round. Oranje-Rood lost 2-1 to Pinoké and Hurley lost 4-1 to Den Bosch.
SCHC - Tilburg 2-2
For the third time in a row, frontrunner SCHC spilled points. This time, the European club champion played a 2-2 draw against straggler Tilburg. Mikki Roberts scored the important point for Tilburg from a penalty corner in the last minute. As main competitors Oranje-Rood lost 2-1 to Pinoké, Tilburg reduced the gap to two points. Tilburg seems to have started a final sprint. Coach Rémi Talma's team gained five points in the last three matches. SCHC sees number two Kampong close to two points. Despite the draw, SCHC is already seventeen matches unbeaten on its own field. In the regular league, the series has already gone 33 games without defeat.
Hurley - Den Bosch 1-4
After HGC's 3-0 win over HDM on Saturday, Hurley could not really lose any points in the fight against relegation, but the task was tough. National champions Den Bosch visited the Amsterdam Forest. Partly thanks to two goals by Frédérique Matla, numbers seventeen and eighteen, coach Marieke Dijkstra's team won 4-1. For Den Bosch, it was the fourth away win in a row and the tenth win in the last twelve matches. In the standings, Den Bosch remains fourth, one point behind Amsterdam. Hurley remained empty-handed for the sixth time in a row and lost for the fourth time in a row at home. Coach Albert Kees Manenschijn's team is tenth, one point behind HGC, which is in safe ninth place. The lead over Oranje-Rood and Tilburg is one and three points respectively.
Pinoké - Oranje-Rood 2-1
Oranje-Rood failed to continue the line of the past two matches, in which it took four points, thanks in part to a 2-2 draw against SCHC. At Amsterdam Forest, the Eindhoven team lost 2-1 to Pinoké. It was the first home win for the Stikneuzen since 16 November last year, when HGC was beaten 2-1. Pinoké is firmly in fifth place in the league table. Oranje-Rood remains eleventh, but sees last placed Tilburg closing in. The difference between the two teams, with three games to go, is two points.
Bloemendaal - Amsterdam 0-2
Bloemendaal could not continue the success of winning the Gold Cup last Thursday against Amsterdam. The visitors decided the game before half-time thanks to goals from Trijntje Beljaars, her 13th of the season, and Katerina Langedijk from a penalty corner. In the mutual confrontations, Amsterdam is already 32 matches in a row unbeaten against Bloemendaal, which last won against the Amsterdam team on 6 November 1994. Bloemendaal is in a weaker phase of the league. The team won only one of its last 12 matches and remained winless on home turf in 16 of its last 17 matches. Amsterdam recorded its sixth win in a row, currently the longest running winning streak in the Tulp Hoofdklasse Women. Jesse Mahieu's team has also been rock solid in away games. Since the 2-0 defeat at SCHC on 6 April last year, Amsterdam is unbeaten in 12 of its most recent away games.
Rotterdam - Kampong 0-4
Kampong won comfortably against Rotterdam, but had their hands full with coach Jorge Nolte's team before half-time. The Utrecht formation could have taken the lead before half-time, but goalkeeper Kelsey Bing turned away the effort of Noor van den Nieuwenhof, who had to leave the field not much later with what appeared to be a serious injury. The lead came after all in the 44th minute, when Kyra Fortuin tipped a wrong width pass in the Rotterdam defence into the goal. For Fortuin, it was her first goal in the Tulp Hoofdklasse in almost three years. Barely two minutes later, Kampong had run out to 0-3 before Iris de Kemp put the final score on the board. Kampong is now five matches unbeaten and suffered only one defeat in its last 13 matches. Moreover, the Utrecht formation approaches frontrunner SCHC to two points. Rotterdam suffered its third defeat in the last nine league games and is sixth.
