From teenagers to golden oldies: all the stats from this season's squads

The KNHB on Friday published the official player lists for the new season in the Tulp Hoofdklasse. Dive into the numbers with us and discover the most striking facts from the group of 522 top hockey players.

TULP HOOFDKLASSE WOMEN

57 teens
Let's start with the women. This season, there are a total of 57 teenagers in the squads of all 12 clubs. HGC, Hurley, Oranje-Rood, Pinoké and Tilburg have the most youngsters in the group (six each), Bloemendaal the least (two).

The youngest
Amsterdam's Reese D'Ariano is the youngest of all the players on the player lists. The American talent, who played a few times with the Amsterdammers last season in the Tulp Hoofdklasse, is the only 16-year-old.

  • Marit van Buul (Tilburg): 17 years and 358 days
  • Pip Jong (HGC): 17 years and 365 days

Small group of thirty-somethings
Of the 259 players, only 14 have touched the 30-year mark. South African player Dirkie Chamberlain, who can be found on HDM's player list, is the oldest with her 38 years. HDM, Den Bosch and Amsterdam each have three thirty-somethings on the list, while Kampong, Pinoké, Rotterdam, SCHC and Tilburg have no thirty-somethings in the group.

Tilburg super young
Tilburg 's squad is the youngest of all 12 teams this season, with an average age of 21.77 years. Champion Den Bosch have the oldest group of players with an average age of 24.32 years.

International experience
Not surprisingly, SCHC and Den Bosch have the most international players in the group. Both teams count ten players who are currently part of a national team. Amsterdam follows with seven internationally lauded players. Promoted Bloemendaal is the only team without an international in its ranks.

In total, players from twelve different countries are playing in the Tulp Hoofdklasse. Most of the 21 foreign players are from Germany and Spain (four each).

44 teens
Then to the men. There, the number of teenagers is a bit lower than with the women: there are 44. Of all the teams, promoted Schaerweijde has the most youngsters (seven), while Rotterdam has only two teenagers.

The youngest
The youngest of all players on the 12 players' lists is Bloemendaal's Teun Hogenhout. The 17-year-old attacking midfielder was officially transferred to The Mussen's selection halfway through last season. He made his debut at the highest level back in September 2023, becoming one of the youngest players ever in the Tulp Hoofdklasse.

  • Teun Hogenhout (Bloemendaal): 17 years and 207 days
  • Jimmi Kummer (Pinoké): 17 years and 249 days
  • Koen Meijerink (Kampong): 18 years and 10 days

Experienced rotten players
Official lists always include former players who can be called up in case of emergency. With that in mind, Wouter Jolie (Bloemendaal) may call himself the oldest player of all selections at 40 years old. Also the 39-year-old all-time top scorer of the Hoofdklasse Jeroen Hertzberger (he retired after last season) can be found in Rotterdam's selection data.

Of all the players we will definitely see in action from the first round of play, the returning Bob de Voogd is the oldest with his 36 years and 362 days.

Schaerweijde has youth
Schaerweijde 's squad is by far the youngest of all 12 teams this season, with an average age of 22.50 years. The team from Zeist has only one player in his thirties, Stijn Draaijer (31 years old). HDM has the oldest group of players with an average age of 25.64 years.

48 foreigners
Of the 263 players on the 12 lists, 48 have non-Dutch passports. Germans and Spaniards dominate with 11 and 10 players respectively. In total, players of 12 different nationalities are active in the Tulp Hoofdklasse this season.

Incidentally, Rotterdam has the most internationals in its ranks (ten), followed by Den Bosch, Bloemendaal and Oranje-Rood (nine each).
