Verschoor and Fillet continue their careers in Spain
Amsterdam players Maria Verschoor and Michelle Fillet will play in Spain starting next season. The duo will play for Real Sociedad de Tenis, a club from Santander that plays in the highest Spanish division.
Verschoor already announced her departure from Amsterdam in mid-March. At that time, she also said she was quitting as a national team player with immediate effect. The experienced midfielder (214 international matches) has played in the Tulp Hoofdklasse on behalf of Amsterdam since 2012. Before that, she broke through as a talent with Rotterdam.
'I have always dreamed of playing hockey abroad for a year,' 31-year-old Verschoor told hockey.nl in March. 'After thirteen years in the Hoofdklasse, I wanted something different.'
Fillet has been playing with Amsterdam since the 2019-2020 season after previously playing six years with Kampong. She won the national title with Amsterdam in 2023 and the Euro Hockey League in 2022 and 2024. In 12 seasons in Tulp Hoofdklasse, the goalkeeper accounted for 96 goals: 29 with Kampong and now 67 as an Amsterdam player.
Fillet: 'It is a dream to embark on a foreign adventure. Real Sociedad de Tenis offers us the chance to keep playing at a high level and to experience a different culture.'
