Some remarkable stats from the men's first half of the season
We are halfway through the winter break in the Tulp Hoofdklasse. A good time to highlight some standouts from the first half of the competition, such as the stats of Jip Janssen, Jeroen Hertzberger, Olivier Hortensius and Boris Burkhardt.
Janssen is Mister 1-0
As ever, Jip Janssen's name can be found in the upper reaches of the top scorers' list. The Kampong defender, feared for his penalty corner, has already made 15 this season. Only Boris Burkhardt (Amsterdam) and Miles Bukkens (Pinoké) scored more often: they both made seventeen.
Janssen opened the score in the first half of the competition with six of his fifteen goals, more than any other player. With that, the Oranje international, who currently plays for Tamil Nadu Dragons in the Hockey India League, can call himself the Hoofdklasse's Mister 1-0. He has held that title for some time now, as over the last five seasons, Janssen scored 25 opening goals, six more than competitor Jeroen Hertzberger of Rotterdam.
The Hertzberger-Hortensius tandem
Talking about Hertzberger: the all-time top scorer of the Hoofdklasse should of course not be missing from this overview. As usual, he too has a high ranking in the top shooters classification. The 38-year-old striker scored 11 goals and also prepared another six goals.
There is something special about those assists. No less than five of Hertzberger's six decisive passes ended on the stick of goal-scorer Olivier Hortensius. The other assist went to Thijs van Dam. With five goals from interplay, the Hertzberger-Hortensius tandem is the most successful in the Hoofdklasse this season.
Burkhardt home top scorer
The distribution of all goals to home and away games also always yields nice facts. In the first half of the competition, the Tulp Hoofdklasse men's side scored a total of 355 goals. These were split almost evenly between the two halves: 177 in home matches and 178 in away matches.
Of all goal scorers, premier league top scorer Boris Burkhardt scored the most in matches in front of his own crowd. The Amsterdam striker scored 12 of his 17 goals at his own Wagener Stadium. Pinoké attacker Miles Bukkens, co-leading topscorer in the Hoofdklasse, was often on target outside the Pinoké ground: he scored ten of his seventeen goals in away matches.
Bloemendaal striker Nathan Ephraums provides the biggest difference between home and away goals. The Australian scored two of his ten goals at 't Kopje in Bloemendaal and scored no fewer than eight times on foreign soil.
