Leaders Oranje-Rood have suffered their first points loss of the early season. In front of their own crowd, the match against reigning champions Amsterdam ended in a goal-rich draw. It ended 4-4 in a game in which Oranje-Rood led 3-0 and 4-2.

Orange-Rood - Amsterdam 4-4

It was the most goal-rich edition of Oranje-Rood-Amsterdam. With eight goals divided fairly between both teams, the audience in attendance proverbially got more than value for money. Oranje-Rood seemed to decide the match early on. After 23 minutes, thanks to goals from Borja LaCalle, Henrik Mertgens and Struan Walker, it was 3-0 for the leaders. However, Amsterdam fought back through Boris Burkhardt, who first exploited a penalty stroke and then finished off a Mustapha Cassiem cross.

After a brilliant backhand shot by Walker (4-2), Oranje-Rood seemed to be on a safe margin. But it proved not enough for the win. Sam Steins Bisschop made it 4-3 from a penalty corner, then four minutes before time Burkhardt completed his hat-trick and put the 4-4 final score on the board. The Amsterdam captain is the league's top scorer with eight goals and now stands at 98 goals in the Tulp Hoofdklasse, just two away from the magic limit of 100.

For Oranje-Rood, the first point defeat thus meant the first points loss after three wins in a row, although the team remains unbeaten in the Tulp Hoofdklasse and has been unbeaten in front of its own public for nine games in a row. Reigning national champions Amsterdam drew for the second time in four games, but are unbeaten in 20 away games in the month of September.
