Goal scoring in the men's league on track to reach record high
The Tulp Hoofdklasse Men can look back at a very goal-rich first five match rounds. After 30 out of 132 matches, 167 goals have been scored, an insanely high average of 5.57 goals per match.
Only in the complete 2008-2009 season was the average number of goals higher than now, as shown in the box below. Back then, 132 matches produced 782 goals, a millage of almost six goals per game.
Of the current season, the most recent match round was the most goal-rich. The six games of the fifth match round accounted for 38 goals. Rotterdam (9-0 against Hurley), Amsterdam (9-0 against Laren) and Bloemendaal and Kampong (5-4 in their mutual duel) made the biggest contributions.
Amsterdam best on target
With 28 goals, national champion Amsterdam is the most prolific team for the time being, followed closely by Rotterdam with 26 goals. The total production of all clubs could have been much higher if Kampong had not experienced a false start. The top team from Utrecht only scored eight goals so far.
Production of 38 goals on one round is rare, but far from a record. That stems from the penultimate match round of the 2014-2015 season. In the six games on Sunday 19 April 2015, a whopping 50 goals fell in total, an average of 8.33 goals per game. To this day, that is still a record production for one match round at the highest level.
